Big Chop #2…

Hey Yinz Guys!

So I know its been quite some time since I’ve posted here on the blog, so it may come as a surprise for some of you who don’t follow me on my other social media networks like Twitter, or Instagram that I cut all my dreads off last week. Honestly I’ve wanted to cut my hair since the beginning of the year but fear and everyone advising me not to do so caused me to delay it. I was thinking about cutting it all off for my 30th birthday in February so that way when I went to Puerto Rico to celebrate I could go swimming but I chose not too (Which I kind of regret now).

So what made me do it recently? Nothing really, I was just sitting in class and was playing in my hair and just thought “I’m going to do it today!” So when I got home I made the announcement, and went up stairs and just started cutting.

I kind of had an idea of how I wanted my hair to look, which meant I was going to have to also make a trip to a barbers chair to achieve the end result that I really wanted. But for the time being, just cutting the hair off was satisfying enough for me.

The next day after class I made my way to my favorite Natural Hair salon/barbershop here in Pittsburgh and that was The Natural Choice Barber & Salon. I have been coming to this place since I was at least in the 8th grade, when my mom first started her natural hair and loc journey, plus I also came here to get my 1st Big Chop done 4 years ago so I’m very familiar with the place.

So when I walked in I expected to wait, but to my surprise not only did I walk right in and got seated in a chair, but the owner of the shop “Nate Da Barber” did my cut, which was a treat within itself. This man has seen me grow up and was also there to see me do my first big chop(I don’t think he remembers though lol), but he also was a major reason why I was able to participate in the “It’s A Natural Thang” hair show last year. Since I’ve known him he has always encouraged me to keep up with my writing and with following my dreams. Even while in his chair he gave me a speech about how I need to create my own opportunities and just do it, get out there and start writing. Which is why I’m writing this post today. So after some time in the chair and explaining to him how I wanted my hair to turn out he blessed me with this amazing cut.

It was more then I could have asked for, I went in confident with my cut and left knowing that I had made the right decision for myself. Nate, like always did an amazing job with my cut, and I highly recommend if you’re in the Pittsburgh area to head over to see him and the rest of the amazing staff over at The Natural Choice for all your natural hair needs. Rather it locs, braids, fresh cuts or anything in between The Natural Choice Barber Shop & Salon can hook you up.

But yeah I feel like a new woman, which was one of the reasons why I was ready to cut my locs after 3 amazing years. I know that at some point I may miss them, but right now, this cut was everything that I needed. I feel like my life is headed in a new direction and I’m happy to start fresh all over again.
