Hey Yinz Guys & Happy Friday…YAY WE MADE IT! 2nd week in 2017 is down for the count, and so how are you all feeling? I hope you’re still sticking to your new year resolutions, and if you’ve fallen off…that’s ok, you can always pick back up where you left off at and start over. So for me one of my 2017 resolutions was to start reading for pleasure again. You may not know, but I’m what I like to call an on again/off again college student. I for the most part pay for my own schooling, and I attend CCAC which is the community college here in Pittsburgh, I didn’t attend last year due to some financial difficulties but I will be back in for the 2017 Fall Semester coming up. So for the most part, the last few books I have read have been for school.
At the end of last year I renewed my library card and started back to reading on my own. I read two books last year that I highly recommend. The first being The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Miguel Ruiz, which really helped with my way of thinking and shifting into a more positive mindset. And the second book I read last year was Hyperbole and a Half: Unfortunate Situations, Flawed Coping Mechanisms, Mayhem , and Other Things That Happened by Allie Brosh…yes the title is MAD long but when I say this book is hilarious…I mean it’s laugh out loud tearing up funny. I actually plan on purchasing both books this year.
Before I get into my list of books I hope to read this year, I first wanted to point out that I have a profile on Goodreads. I would describe it as like the Facebook/MySpace for readers lol. Here you share what books you have read and are currently reading as well as share books you wish to read and it also recommends books based off your picks. I like it because you can also follow your friends and see what books they are reading or wish to read as well. Another neat thing about the app is that you can share your progress on your current books and set goals for how many books you’ll like to read in a set year. So if you have a profile on Goodreads, you can follow me if you like, I always like to see what other people are reading.
So now on to my list, they’re not in any particular order because I am loaning them from the library and all of them seem to be pretty popular so I’m on the waiting list for most of them. I also linked each book to amazon just in case any of yinz guys would be interested in buying these books instead of getting at your local library.
- The Black Panthers Speak – The Manifesto of the Party: The first complete documentary record of the Panthers’ program By: Philip S. Foner, editor (I own this book, purchased it from Half Price Books)
- You Are A Bad Ass: How to stop doubting your greatness and start living an awesome life By: Jen Sincero
- Power of Habit: Why we do what we do in life and business By: Charles Duhigg
- The Wait: A powerful practice to finding the love of your life and the life you love By: Devon Franklin & Megan Good
- Year of Yes By: Shonda Rhimes
- The Power of Positive Thinking By: Norman Vincent Peale
- Ego Is The Enemy By: Ryan Holiday
- The Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fuck: A counterintuitive approach to living a good life By: Mark Manson
- Think and Grow Rich By: Napoleon Hill
So that’s my list so far, actually I added two books to it since I wrote this list up over on my Goodreads profile. But yeah, I would love to know what books you plan on reading this year. I’m super committed to keeping this resolution because reading is great for enhancing one’s vocabulary as well as it helps with creativity. And with my goal of becoming not only a better blogger but writer as well, I can use all the help I can get. So yeah, in the comment section leave what books you plan on reading this year, and also if you have any book recommendations I would loved to see them too.
And as always, Thanks So Much for rocking with your girl. I hope you have a great long weekend(I’m so hyped about this 3 day weekend y’all lol).
Peace Yinz Guys
*FYI this was not a sponsored post lol, I just love my goodreads app*
